I did it. I finally broke down and got a kitten. I haven't had a cat in over two years, and my life has been sort of...empty without one.
I picked up little Archie in Soldiers Grove, from a family that was none too concerned with his welfare. They owned both his mother and father and obviously neither had been neutered, so they probably go through the "free kittens" thing at least twice a year. Archie had fleas, ear mites, and worms. He was well socialized though and knew how to use a litter box (contrary to popular belief, kittens don't instinctively know what to do in sand, they have to be taught by their mothers).
Currently Archie is flying around my apartment like somebody lit his little tail on fire, stopping occasionally to attack one of his toys or dive headfirst into his litterbox and come up with litter on his nose. If I wanted to, though, I could go pick him up and he would transform instantly into Mr. Snuggles, purring so loudly the people on the next block could hear him.
Yep, I'm in love.
